PPP members stage walkout from NA over ‘enforced disappearance’ of Zardari’s aides

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) lawmakers on Wednesday staged a walkout from National Assembly during a session in protest over ‘enforced disappearance’ of three close aides to former president Asif Ali Zardari, ARY News reported.

On a point of order, the opposition leader Khursheed Shah said that the missing persons must be produced before the court if they were wanted in either corruption or terrorism charges.

“The parliament had passed a bill unanimously and legislated that any person arrested on suspicion of being involved in a crime must be produced within 24 hours before the concerned court”, he said while terming the enforced disappearance of party leaders as disrespecting the legislature.

“Enforced disappearances weakening the parliament and causing harm to national integrity”, the opposition leader underlined, adding, PPP has always believed in the supremacy of the parliament.

Shah further said that the enforced disappearances would create concern among the masses and ultimately they would lose their confidence over the institutions.

Demanding about their whereabouts, Shah questioned the silence of the government over the matter and said that the opposition party has been left with no other option than to protest and has right to stage walkout.
