Kashmiri students protest against assaulting, harassing them in India

MEWAR, India: Kashmiri students staged protests on Friday against assaulting and harassing them across India.

The students go to Indian cities for higher education. They said they should not be treated as terrorists. The Kashmiri citizens also demanded justice from the authorities.

A group of local residents thrashed six Kashmiri students studying at Mewar University in Rajasthan’s Chhittorgarh district, local Indian media reported on Friday.

“The incident happened on the evening of 19 April when the students were in the market to purchase household items. Four-five unidentified persons asked the students about their names and permanent address and thrashed them,” SHO Gangrar Dinesh Kumar told PTI.

Tension prevailed in Chittorgarh after a group of locals thrashed some Kashmiri students of Mewar University after they were called “stone-pelters”.

Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed grave concern over this situation and said, “Treatment meted out to Kashmiri students across India is a matter of grave concern. In Mewar students are beaten and harassed. This is third such attack on them.”

He also said it had been seventh consecutive week since he had been barred from offering Friday prayers.
