CM Sindh writes to PM over rescheduled CCI meeting

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Friday  wrote a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to convene the meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CII) on May 2.

The meeting was scheduled to be held on August 28 (today) in Islamabad, but was postponed without any reason. CM Sindh had even convened a preparatory meeting to discuss the agenda of the meeting and put forward the demands from Sindh.

“The 31th meeting of the CCI which was scheduled to be held on 28th April 2017 has now been rescheduled to be held on 2nd May, 2017,” said the letter from CM Sindh.

CM Sindh requested the Prime Minister to direct the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to submit two important cases, LNG Policy and implementation of Article 158, in the CCI meeting. He also asked PM Sharif to direct the ministry to send the cases to the provinces immediately so the matter can be decided in the meeting.

The government of Sindh has been at loggerheads over various issues including electricity, gas and water shortages. CM Sindh has demanded an additional 1200 cusecs water for Karachi and urged provinces to share water like Islamabad.

The agenda of the CCI meeting includes matter pertaining to higher education and other similar bodies, formulation of National Flood Protection Plan IV, import of LNG, National Forest Policy 2015 and sixth population and housing census.

The meeting would also discuss amendments in Electric Power Act 1997, gas supply to villages in five kilometer radius of gas fields, water shortage in Pat Feeder and Khirthar canals, allocation of 1200 cusecs (650.5 MGD) additional water for Karachi city (K-IV) project and others.
